Pre-Oxidation of Drinking Water

Pre-Oxidation of Drinking Water with Permanganates for the removal of Iron and Manganese and for the control of THM's.

Potassium Permanganate, considered a traditional chemical by the DWI, has for many years been used for the removal of Iron and Manganese from various raw water sources. However, advances in permanganate technology has resulted in a new range of liquid products based on Sodium, allowing these contaminants to be removed more easily because of the ease of handling and application of these products.

Also, with the permitted levels of Trihalomethanes and Arsenic being reduced this liquid Sodium product, marketed under the trade name of Carusol, is finding wide acceptance in the field of potable water.

Also Permanganate can be used as a pre-oxidant to control the following;

• Taste and odour compounds.
• Geosmin and MIB (in conjunction with GAC) Oxidizable inorganics and organics.
• Oxidizable organics and inorganics.

Carusol is officially approved by the DWI, ANSI/NSF and AWWA for use in these applications.
